World class research requires access to advanced equipment and advanced competence
Stockholm BioScience, a part of Stockholm Science City/Vetenskapsstaden, builds information platforms for researchers from both the commercial and the academic spheres. These web-based platforms are intended to achieve more rational utilisation of the equipment and competence available at research universities.
The range of equipment and competence available within bioscientific research at Karolinska Institutet, the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University is already considerable, and intensive development of methods is underway within the framework of this type of research. Teresa Soop at Stockholm BioScience interviewed a number of researchers and found that this group’s level of awareness of, and access to, equipment and competence are often quite low. Consequently a project has been initiated to compile information on specific equipment and competence within biosciences at the three universities and publish it on a joint, web-based platform. This platform is intended to create the preconditions for higher quality of equipment and competence as well as further stimulating cooperation between the various research disciplines. The benefit to companies lies in their opportunities to gain access to certain facilities that they themselves do not possess the competence to utilise. “As Stockholm Science City is the project owner of the Core Facilities platform, a clearly defined, long-term responsibility for maintaining its quality and relevance has now been allocated”, states Teresa Soop.
Preliminary launch during the autumn of 2006. For further information please contact Teresa Soop at +46 734 38 38 77.
