Absolute world class: SciLife Lab
On 21 February the three presidents - Harriet Wallberg Henriksson (Karolinska Institutet - KI), Peter Gudmundson (Royal Institute of Technology - KTH) and Kåre Bremer (Stockholm University - SU) – submitted their joint project description for the SciLife Lab to Lars Leijonborg, the Minister for Higher Education and Research at the Ministry of Education and Research.
The work of establishing this project description has been led by Anders Ericsson, (then Acting President of KTH) using background facts provided by Stockholm Science City’s Scientific Council.
The project description clearly states the intention of developing a life sciences centre of absolute world class. This, the group feels, is essential in order to be able to attract the elite and consequently generate continued knowledge development for Sweden. A location in this geographical area around “the three Stockholm universities is based on the precondition that the three of them together, but not separately, possess the knowledge and resources necessary to support leading edge research within the life sciences, that there is a documented will to cooperate within this area and that the geographical location of a collaborative laboratory has already been planned. This is based on several years’ efforts aimed at the location of a life sciences knowledge centre in the Norra station area in Stockholm”, states the project description.
Stockholm Science City (SSCi) has initiated cooperation with Stockholm County Council – New Karolinska Solna - concerning marketing communications of New Karolinska Solna and life science developments at Norra station.
