Stockholm County Council
Stockholm County Council’s mandate is to ensure that its residents have access to healthcare and public transport as well as preventing health problems. Important elements of the County Council's operation are long-term traffic planning, regional growth and development, to make culture acsessible to all of its residents and environmental issues.

Stockholm County Council’s activities affect over one fifth of Sweden's population. The geographical area covered by the council includes 26 municipalities of various sizes and characters, with a total population of 1.9 million.
Stockholm’s residents have great opportunities to influence their community. The County Council is a democratic organisation with elections every four years to determine its political focus. The Moderates, Liberals, Christian democrats and Centre Party share a political majority for the 2006 – 2010 term of the County Council’s mandate.
Some facts about Stockholm County Council
Every year nearly 1 million inhabitants, 56 per cent of the county´s population, have contact with local healthcare.
About one in four adults and virtually all children and young people in the county use the Public Dental Service. All dental care for children and young people is financed by the County Council.
On a normal weekday about 650 000 people travel using Stockholm Transport´s (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, SL) services.
Of the County Council´s 42 000 employees, 96 per cent work in healthcare. About 80 per cent are women.
